Pushkar Fair

In addition to the camel trading there were a number of cultural programs and events for tourists as well as locals.  Among the most photograph friendly events (basically because they took place during the day) were the “spiritual walk,” (essentially a parade consisting of carts, dancers, musicians, and, of course, camels) and the closing ceremonies.  The closing ceremonies consisted of an eclectic mix of events including a camel race, a tug-of-war between the foreign tourists and the Indians, a water pot race, a small parade of dancers, some music, and a sky jump by the Indian Air Force.  In case you were wondering, an Indian woman won the water pot race, the Indian women beat the foreign women in the tug-of-war, but the foreign men beat the Indian men, and finally in a Pushkar battle of the sexes the Indian women beat the foreign men in the tug-of-war.  No, I wasn’t among those chosen for the tug-of-war.
